David John Cawdell Irving (born 1938), claimant in person. Author of over 30 books, principally on the Third Reich — including The Destruction of Dresden (1963), Hitler’s War (1977 / 1991) and Goebbels: Mastermind of the Third Reich (1996). Brought this action in September 1996 alleging libel by the defendants over passages in Lipstadt’s Denying the Holocaust.
